The sky is symbolic and belongs to everyone. It is a symbol of hope and freedom, and it is just damn nice to look at the horizon. Most people have dreamed of taking to the skies like a bird. Growing wings to fly wherever they wanted.

With airsports, people come a step closer to their relationship with the skies. Whether they are jumping out of a plane or piloting the plane, the act intertwines the beauty of the sky and the danger of gravity (or worse).

This danger aspect is something that we’ll be discussing in this article. Most if not all airsports are shrouded in danger. However, this article is not meant to drive airsports enthusiasts away from trying these out. Quite the opposite.

Medway Airsports Club is writing this article to let people know what can go wrong so that they can prepare and enjoy these activities to the fullest.

Let’s take a look at three things that can go wrong during airsports.

Parachute Failures

First up, we have probably one of the most famous and well-known things that can go wrong in airsports: the parachute malfunction.

Skydiving is one of the most exhilarating activities that you can partake in when you are in the sky. It doesn’t get any more adrenaline-filled than jumping out of the plane and watching the ground coming up at you.

Your only safeguard from certain doom is the parachute that you bring with you. However, there have been cases when the parachute jams or malfunctions. Nothing could be more terrifying knowing that you’re about to fall straight to six feet under.

Always check that the parachute has been packed correctly. When you are about to engage it, make sure your body is in the right position.

Also, always make sure that you have a backup parachute packed when you jump.

Air Collisions

Whether you are piloting a plane or in a hang glider, it is imperative that you look out for structures or things that you may collide with. This is actually one of the leading causes of death when skydiving.

These go for power lines and trees as well. Absolutely no collisions are good collisions. Always stay aware when you are in the air. If you are piloting a plane, pay attention to the detection systems that are installed in it.

Landing Wrong

People think that doing the airsport is difficult. Just getting up there and taking to the air. However, one overlooked aspect is the landing portion.

The problem is that during the landing so many things can go wrong. There are so many things to take into consideration such as the angle of the landing, or gear malfunctions.

These are only a few things that can go wrong during airsports. Whatever airsport you are thinking about joining, make sure you research on the dangers and risks and prepare accordingly. Your life is at stake.
